Montecito Village
Valley Improvement Company was established in 1946 and immediately began constructing a charming village-style shopping center right in the heart of Montecito. The Village was built in stages and would eventually span both sides of East Valley Road near the San Ysidro intersection. Completed in 1979, The Montecito Village still remains a cornerstone of the community and one of the most unique Shopping Centers in the United States. The red tile roofs, Mediterranean style buildings and cozy little shops you can still park right in front of, can all be credited to the vision of Charles A. Borgatello, founder of Valley Improvement Company.
Charlie took great pride in his Village and spent the rest of his life maintaining and enhancing it. A tradition continued by his son Norm Borgatello making Montecito Village what it is today.
